Why yes, yes that was me! This
waaaay the heck early morning was an opportunity to spread some love for the SoCal Dirty Girl Run happening this Saturday. I was excited to finally meet Shannyn from Frugal Beautiful and Corinna from Mama Needs to Run. That in itself was super fun, even though it was cold. and dark. and foggy. We rocked my favorite race gear from Team Sparkle and of course I couldn’t go without my Sparkly Soul band as we filmed a couple of segments for the local news to chat up the event and encourage all women (14 years and older) to participate regardless of fitness level. There were two 30 second “teasers” of us working out in the background, and two 3 minute segments of interview time with the reporter.
I had my girlfriend Sandi from Peak Training bring her toys to come out and play with us.
Ok, so it was more like play for her, torture for the rest of us. I was super thankful that the girls nominated me as the mouth of our group, because they were WORKING IT. For real. I’m still sore from Saturday’s WOD, so the only thing I was running was my mouth. While she was trying to go beast mode on them, I had the opportunity to remind the viewers that besides the F U N they will be having, participants will be supporting a great cause. From their site:
Giving to the National Breast Cancer Foundation
Here at Dirty Girl, our mission is to inspire women to step outside of their comfort zone and to create meaningful partnerships our participants benefit from. Our partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is truly symbiotic and is one that we believe in.
In 2012, it is the goal of Dirty Girl to provide the National Breast Cancer Foundation with over $250,000 in monetary and in-kind support. In 2013, our goal is to deliver over $1,500,000 in support to NBCF. In addition, Dirty Girl will continue providing cancer survivors free registration at each event.
How awesome to come together as women to raise awareness and show our support! Ironically, after the shoot, I received a phone call from a friend who was at the hospital because she wasn’t feeling well. A few hours later, she came out of the hospital still undiagnosed, but the doctor who saw her found a couple of lumps in each breast. CHECK YOUR GIRLS, GIRLS!
You can register as an individual (or join me on Team Mud & Mayhem), and rock the run. The obstacles are challenging, but not impossible, and they even offer detours for the obstacles that just ain’t happenin for you. Total win, win. Plan to get wet (the H2OMG is only knee high, so you won’t drown) and plan for some PMS (pretty muddy stuff), so grab your old kicks and come out to play with us!
