I’ve gone back, people.
I got bored and I think this is what my original color is, but it’s been so long. Ha. After spending a good part of 2014 between injuries and recovery, it was time to sit down and figure out what the heck I was doing with myself.
I love running.
Or do I?
But it’s hard.
But I do.
But it’s work.
But I still really want that sub2 half.
But I really want to be stronger, too.
And so goes the continual dialogue in my head. All. The. Time. Long story boring, I kept coming back to the same question – why did I start running? I started running because I had some serious body fat to lose. The racing, the bling, the community of runners – that was just bonus that made me love everything about running.
But I’ve been unsettled. Partly due to life, no doubt. But also partly because running had become work. Most days I found it was something I needed to do, not something I necessarily wanted to do. I’d been making an effort to build more cross training and gym time into my schedule to help with recovery and hopefully getting off this injury train, but I want more. I don’t want to just avoid injury and have a balance, I want to see actual progress. Physically, long distance running isn’t conducive to putting on muscle. *sigh*
I went back and forth and finally decided it was time to go back to my roots. Waaaay back in the day, decades ago (gasp!) I used to lift. A lot. Of course I was barely 100 pounds and a beanpole, but I loved to lift. Time and again this past year, I’ve said I’m breaking up with running to “just” lift again. At the start of the year, I decided it was time to hang up the kicks. For now, anyway. It’s been a month and while the scale has not moved, clearly we’re making progress. You know me, I keep it real and don’t hold back, so here you go:
Considering I got off track because of a race weekend
that turned into a week of eating everything under the sun in the name of carb loading, I have nothing to complain over – other than my lack of self-control. 🙂
I’ll be posting more about all the changes that have come with this new season, but for now, I’ll leave you with this little parody that is forever stuck in my head.
Until next time. 🙂
